Inspiration
In my opinion this piece feels very EDM. I think it could be used whether in a commercial or a scene in a type of media that calls for club style music. I could even see the song being taken and even added to or remixed and released as a full club song.
Rhythm/Bass
The rhythm and bass have a very sort of old school Freestyle music feel to them. They remind me of an old and abandoned style of music that most people called “Freestyle” but I and most everyone where I’m from called it “Club House.” I joined the two separate and melodically different parts with a rhythm that built and then stabilized.
Harmony/Melody
The first part of the song is in the key of A minor and for the second part I decided to go with the relative major key of C Major. When it comes to the melody, I usually figure out the starting note for the key and then I play around with the notes until a melody forms in my mind and then I create it.
Recording/Synth/Sampler
The synth I used was subtle to give the song that club sound without overpowering the track. The Sampler I used was a guitar that I found had a nice sound to it and I wanted to incorporate it and finally the recording is me vocalizing. I felt inspired to adlib a haunting vocalization to the song to which I added reverb, echo, compression, and EQ to give it that sound.
Processing
Overall, what I wanted to give this song was an ethereal large night club feel and the way that I used both echo and reverb I feel like I was able to accomplish that. I tried to stick to the same timed based effects throughout so that it would all sound as though it was made in the same environment, but I did use one other reverb style because I liked what it did to those tracks.
